- THE PHILADELPHIA STORY received Academy Award® nominations for: Best Picture, Actress, Supporting Actress, and Director.
- It won Academy Awards® for: Best Actor James Stewart and Best Screenplay.
- The theatrical version of The Philadelphia Story was written especially with Katharine Hepburn in mind as the lead. Playwright Philip Barry wooed her back to the stage with the script after she had a bad experience in New York with The Lake.
- Hepburn liked the play so much she bought the film rights, secured $250,000.00 from MGM to make the film and obtained the right to select her own director, screenwriter and co-stars.
- THE PHILADELPHIA STORY was shot in just eight weeks and required no retakes.
